CANDY SHOP, AUBURN

Hidden in a creepy yellow brick building on parramatta rd, auburn,
across the road from the reading cinemas is
MILLERS DISTRIBUTING CO.
AKA a time warp back to the 90s via. candy

ignore the cheap lookin building, cause the lollies ain't that cheap!

in reality they're really quite cheap
BUT they're not really, considering the fact that
most of these lollies expired in 1996

^^the melted ice cream spray candy was literally melting
out of the box in a typical west end fashion

however once you're able to find it in your heart to look past the expiry
dates and decide not to consume the food, we are 150% certain that the blast from the
past in the form of 90s candy will be a worthwhile experience

especially these RAP N' ROCK collectable bubblegum packets
featuring the likes of madonna, salt n' pepper, ice cube, paula abdul,
blondie, run dmc, prince and many many more sure to be a hit
on any playground/office cubicle and a sure way to make new friends

^^^cotton candy bubble gum!!!!!!!!!
remember that? huh? HUH?!

FLOWER MARKETS, FLEMINGTON

The flower markets at flemington are amazing!!
They happen every friday woohoo!
If you want the most excellent and decent priced flowers then it is best to go very earlier ie. around 6am. If you want equally as fantastic flowers but with a smaller variety and cheaper then it is best to go later ie. around 10am. If you go even later on in the afternoon then you can get free flowers by picking the rejects up off the floor, this is not frowned upon at all because there are only about 5 people present in the very large market of flowers at that time.

pretty and pretty cheap!

these babies were going for $10 which is pretty amazing seeing as bunnings wanted an entire $23! just dont get too upset when they die in winter because apparently theyll come back to life by summer if you continue watering them

centrepieces we made with the $50 worth of flowers we bought,
talk about a bargain! only in the west side

If you want to buy some fresh fruit that is also an option at the fruit markets which are conviniently located in the giant factory next door. As well as the fruit market there is another market that sells things such as real cheap mac make up, sanitary items, snack foods, socks and a whole bunch or random stuff you may just happen to need OH AND SEAFOOD YUM!

Daim! This chocolate is cheap and sexy $15/box!

STAY TUNED FOR A BLOG POST ON AN AMAZING LOOKING CAFE WE SPOTTED ON OUR WAY OUT!

CAKE IT AWAY ILLLIN, MERRYLANDS

My earliest memory of Merrylands Rd's Cake It Away store was in high school in the west when our grade nine commerce teacher told us about the time she was hired as a training employee for like 2 weeks when really she was hired to do all the shit work for no money then told she didm't get the job.......which is pretty typical of the west i guess......

This is cake it away at night time, where in the not so distant distance you can hear the merry merrylands alcoholics and underage catholic school girls gettin their drank on from the lil bottler probably only cause they have $3 wine and the shop is owned by a lebo family (matez ratez).....but anyway the platform steps of Cake It Away, at night time, is where we like to eat our pizza hut pizza with the live entertainment of sexy lebo cars pumpin out sexy lebo beats

Also once my mum bought a cake from here and it was nice-ish, AND i heard my sister's teacher bought pavlova and it was pretty damn excellent

and they're all my memories of Merrylands Rd Cake It Away.
it's merry
it's on a road
it's Cake
what more could you possibly ask for? HUH?

BEST CHILL SPOT IN THE WEST, SINCERELY.......

*UPDATE (19/5/2012)*
WEG regrets to inform you that the platform steps of Cake It Away blew away in a freak storn the other night. Not literally blew away but collapsed or something like that. WEG are yet to witness the extent of the damage and will probably just avoid going here from now on in order to minimise the grief caused by the loss of these platform steps..... Time to find another chill spot...............

OP SHOPPIN, WOODPARK

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Okay so we started going here round yr 8 to buy belts haha belts! lowl! anyway belt buying turned into bag buying and then everything buying really. Woodpark op shop is tha fucken bomb, its woodparks hidden secret...well its not really hidden theres nothing else in woodpark, its probably the west sides smallest suburb. ANYWAY we went here the other day not looking for anything in particular and the 77 yr old (thats right, 77, to be exact) ladies working there informed us that they have been saving all the stylish clothes for all the stylish youth that supposedly flood through the doors of wood park op shop.

BONSAI SHOP, GUILDFORD

This gem of the west is home to louie the little asian man's bonsai/corner shop

Us West End Gurls would go there in tenth grade after discovering it during our free periods, hadn't gone back in around a year, and never actually spoke to the little asian man chillin behind the counter cause we would usually only ever flower pick jewlerry from his fridge and eat his ice cold ice cream during the summer time.

so four years later, after all that good shit, we found ourselves back in the west, back in that very bonsai shop, chillin with that very same little asian man named Louie.

We started askin him a few questions.......heres how it all went down (from what our language barriers allowed us to understand):

Where are you from? Vietnam, I lived there until I was 30, I graduated from university over there in 1970, studied philosophy and worked for the Government.
Why did you come to oz? to escape capitalism
Where did you first live? in 1978 in East hills, army reserve camp for the first vietnamese refugees with My brother who now lives in canley vale
What was your first job? in a factory in padstow
How long have you lived in the west? 30 years
Where do you live now? chester hill
How long has bonsai shop been open? 15 years
Familia? wife, two girls, one son
How many trees have you grown/sold? 3, 4, 5 000
Do you like working here? yes nice n easy, I own all the shops on the block so I dont need to pay rent To myself which is good because corner shops are starting to die.
Are the people who come into your store friendly? yes they very nice but like every business i have good days and bad days.
Do you enjoy living in western sydney? yes this is where i know, i am not super rich i am a second class people, people not from western sydney think i from cabramatta but i not even from there. this is sad about people who dont live in western sydney they dont know. we have good life here, nice life not all like on news.

Louie louie then took us out back and showed us the bonsai trees he keeps caged. Man oh man, these are some of the best kept and most affordable bonsai trees in town ranging from $20 - +$150.

While we hung out back with the baby trees he cooked us up some fish n chips ($7)

Louie then played us some sweet tunes on his acoustic guitar as we rummaged through his fridge of random shit lookin for random shit to buy to make up for all the flower pickin' we did back in the day.

We settled on the purchases of fish n chips, onion rings, an asian heart necklace and a glass patterned weight.
It set us back an entire 15.50$.

"i am samuraii" - Louie 2011
We then went and had a little picnic on the side of the shop...good times...

They were some sick chips! Up until this visit we had thought the fish n chips sign was a joke...so happy it was for real although the fish was lacking the chips made up for em in everyway. The onion rings were also pretty damn excellent.

Goodbye Bonsai its gonna rain!!!!!
